Rug is one of a handful of 17th-century churches to avoid the restoration during the Victorian Gothic revival era. It was the privately owned by Colonel William Salesbury, affectionately known as ‘Hen Hosanau Gleision’ or Old Blue Stockings. The roof is carved and painted in a glorious flowing floral design and guarding the scene are four cut-out wooden angels. Every surface the eye sees seems to be a plethora of colour and extravagant decoration.
Stepping into the Chapel is like entering a time machine, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into 1637 when the Chapel was constructed.
